Foundation Projects

The Hockey Foundation is a Swiss registered Foundation, established in 1986 to support the development and promotion of hockey across the globe. Over the past 39 years the Foundation has supported many hundreds of Hockey Family projects, across all five continents, with grants and investments.

Activities of the Foundation are funded by donations, grants and events. Three core projects were established in 2015 to enable the Foundation to build to a point where it had the resource and capacity to support and grow Hockey Family projects more effectively and more sustainably.

FIH Academy - In 2015 the Hockey Foundation started funding a project to create a global education programme, and the FIH Academy was born.

The Academy now has over 150 global educators and has trained over 5000 individuals.

The Foundation now has a trained global workforce of volunteers and professionals who have the capability to deliver programmes across the globe.

Hockey4LIFE and RDOs - Launched in 2019, Hockey4LIFE is our global development programme, focusing on participation delivery programmes for sport and social development. Hockey4LIFE is the central delivery programme for Hockey2024 - our joint 5 yr strategy with the FIH.

The Recognised Development Organisations (RDOs) project supports and values organisations who share our vision and purpose - part of our global force for sport and good.

Sustainable Development - has always been a core objective of the Foundation, but in 2018 we launched INSPIRATION as a stand-alone strategic area.

The major shift is that "just hockey" is not enough! We want everything we do to have a positive social impact. All projects should demonstrate how they are contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals - Just like Juan Sanchez in the photo above - Sport for Peace in Columbia using hockey to make the world a better place.

Examples of the projects the Foundation is delivering

PAHF/FIH Academy Coaching Level 3 - Held in Lima, Peru at the Pan-American Games with top coaches from 15 nations.

High Performance knowledge is of great importance to smaller hockey nations where the success of their national teams is often the main criteria for access to NOC or government funding for hockey.

TAP West Africa - A multi-agency sustainable targeted assistance programme launched in 2016.

The project is developing participation, education and high performance in 6 West African hockey nations.

Over 5000 individuals have benefited from the programme to date. It is a wonderful example of sustainable development in action.

TAP East Africa - Based on the success of TAP West Africa, this project was launched in 2019 in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Malawi.

The focus is hockey development in rural and urban communities, helping to improve access to education and sport.
